What began in 1954 as a small neighborhood butcher shop and specialty store has grown steadily—aisle by aisle—thanks to the support and requests of loyal customers. Founded by Tom and Janet Violante, Holiday Market has always been committed to offering high-quality products paired with warm, friendly, community-focused service. The Violante family has proudly passed their stores on to Johnny and Matthew Shouneyia, and the love continues. Whose passion for fine foods is matched only by their love for the community, Holiday Market continues to thrive as a place where quality and connection come first—shaping it into one of Metro Detroit’s most beloved and award-winning grocery destinations.
In 2025, ownership of the Royal Oak and Birmingham Holiday Market locations transitioned to Johnny and Matthew Shouneyia. The Shouneyias took on ownership and operations of the Holiday Market Canton location in 2024, purchasing the sister store from Lisa (Violante) Pardington, and her husband, John. The success of that transition—marked by the brothers’ seamless preservation of the store’s culture, standards, and day-to-day operations—paved the way for purchase of the Royal Oak location and Holiday Market Select in Birmingham into their growing family of markets.
Having grown up in the grocery business, the brothers followed in their father’s footsteps to build a strong portfolio of stores they proudly own and operate today, including the Value Center Marketplace locations in Clinton Township and Madison Heights. Together, they have unified and rebranded the Value Center grocery stores under the iconic Holiday Market name, proudly carrying on the legacy forward into a new era.
